The Bay Area, including San Mateo, is comprised of pedestrian friendly neighborhoods. Yet the sheer number of pedestrians combined with the volume of traffic places these individuals at risk of a car accident and, more specifically, a hit-and-run collision. One such accident occurred recently in San Lorenzo where a teenage girl was struck by a vehicle while she was in a crosswalk. She was taken to the hospital and treated for leg and ankle injuries. The driver fled the scene and the accident investigation continues.
These types of accidents are a sad reality in the Bay Area and can have a traumatic impact on victims and their families. A pedestrian accident caused by a negligent driver or a distracted driver can cause a serious injury. These injuries, whether as minor as a bruise or as major as a brain injury, can leave victims emotionally and physically scarred.
