Cars in the Bay Area can be dangerous, even to those citizens who are not driving. A recent fatal accident in Daly City proves the point. There, a young girl was walking with her mother in a church parking lot when a minivan jumped a curb and pinned the girl, her mother and another woman. Though others rushed to help and lift the car off the victims, the girl died at the hospital. The two women were still hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. It is a situation like this that often results in a wrongful death lawsuit.
While the girl’s mother and other family members undoubtedly will grieve over her passing, they also must contend with the financial burden placed upon them as a result of the accident. A wrongful death lawsuit seeks to remedy this situation. Succeeding on a wrongful death claim may allow the deceased’s family to recover compensation to help with medical expenses, pain and suffering the deceased may have felt before passing and funeral costs.
